Saints pray harder, God gives them Super Bowl
Posted by Jesus on February 7, 2010
As I’m sure all of you know, working harder, preparing better, tackling more aggressively, and playing consistently does not win Super Bowls. Offense does not win Super Bowls. Defense does not win Super Bowls. All-star quarterbacks, once-in-a-generation running backs, clutch kickers, and trick plays do not win Super Bowls. The single determining factor in which professional team wins the Super Bowl is prayer. Simply put, the team that prays harder wins it. Every year.
This year the top prayer honor goes to the New Orleans Saints, and boy do they deserve it. Few current NFL players understand and respect the lack of value which comes with preparedness more than Drew Brees. Rather than spending his time watching tape, perfecting his motion, or developing on-field rapport with his receivers and backs, Drew spent the majority of the year on his knees beside coach Sean Payton begging God to determine the outcome of games in their favor. Tonight God answered Sean and Drew’s many, many prayers, handing them their first Super Bowl win in Saints franchise history.
This should be a powerful lesson to young Christians around the world. The road to achieving your dreams is not to work hard to better yourself, or to surround yourself with skilled and motivated people, it’s simply to pray. You see, no amount of dedication and perseverance can do what a single honest prayer can do. Millions upon millions of good Christians are currently serving out your God-determined roles among the unemployed and Super Bowl winners alike, and each of you should now recognize that you have absolutely no personal say as to the state of your conditions. Begging God to change it for you is the only way to get things done.
Of course in the case of the Super Bowl good Christian fans do have a minor role to play as well, so it’s important not to count you completely out. Your prayers count a full 20% toward God’s decision as to which team God selects to win the game, so tonight the people of New Orleans can raise their glasses to the only being in the universe who had any real say whatsoever in the outcome of the game, God Almighty, and to themselves for doing such an outstanding job of begging Him to determine the game in favor of their team for the first time in franchise history!
Congratulations New Orleans Saints and Saints fans! Way to pray!
