Tony got whacked

I’ve been hearing a lot of talk about the Sopranos finale, and even some prayers have floated in about what might have actually happened in the final scene. To set the record straight, Tony got whacked. True story. It’s only too easy to figure out, if only you put the pieces together. Of course just to verify the whole thing I asked Dad about it too, and He’s in agreement. His having created David Chase and planned the entire Sopranos phenomenon before the first human ever set foot on Earth basically makes him the definitive source. Gotta love that.

So yeah, Tony’s dead. And here’s why.

In the first episode of the latest run, tony and Bobby sit out in the boat and talk about what it’s like to go. It was concluded that it wasn’t “like” anything. One minute things are going, and the next they’re not - only darkness. The only thing that can cause such a death is a major wound to the head/brain, such as might be caused by the wiseguy’s supposed favorite method of clipping - the gunshot to the head.

Remember Sil saying Phil had done what they called “going to ground?” While Phil was still very much in contact with his guys, he was basically out of the pocket until the jobs were done. When his guys didn’t take care of business quickly enough, it’s only reasonable for him, as the top criminal in New York City, to escalate matters. We can safely assume that even though the New York Captains were complicit in Tony’s scheme to survive, Phil was not. He had outside help. It was only a matter of time before they got to Tony.

In the diner scene itself there was far too much attention paid to the Members Only guy. Then he went into the bathroom, which is a move straight out of One. It would make sense, seeing as he ordered nothing and sat eying Tony, that he might well have been Phil’s backup guy. The family had a set meeting time at a set place. How hard would that have been to figure out?

When someone walked into the place, Tony looked up and saw them. His wife, AJ, but not Meadow. She was just coming into the place when the whole mess went dark. His attention diverted, Tony never saw the assassin come out of the bathroom and empty rounds into both him and AJ.
