Christians, are you still Under God?

Posted by Jesus on March 13, 2007

I wonder sometimes, is this still one nation Under God? Is America still the land of the Christian? Are you willing to step up and prove it again, like you’ve done time and time again when we’ve needed you? Pay attention, flock, because Jesus is about to talk about something important. Our topic today comes from Daniel Burke of the Religion News Service, who in an article for beliefnet.com outs the first atheist member of your congress, Representative Pete Stark, a Democrat from California.

This is unacceptable, people. Not only do you need to vote this man from office at your first available opportunity, but you need to write to your elected representatives this time. Send them a letter asking them to ensure that Stark doesn’t have any decision-making abilities which might allow him to run America straight to the waiting arms of Satan. Also, make sure you ask your own representatives about their faith. If they do not know me, elect someone better. Ask your preacher to run for congress, even. If every church put up their best deacon in a series of city, county, region, and state runoffs it is not unfathomable that every state should field a few really fantastic and religious representatives. Think about that for a minute. People at the top who make decisions not based on what they think is in the best interests of the people, or themselves ( I’m looking at you John Edwards), but rather based on what I would do. Can you imagine a better America?

Let me be frank with you though. While right now only a few of your elected representatives publicly claim not to know me, the reality of the situation is far more sinister. Most of them pay me the lip service they need to get by, and you allow it to happen. That needs to end now. We can’t go around letting people pretend to represent me when they do not truly have my interests at heart. With the exception of your president and a small minority in congress, secret atheism looms large in the halls of power. Given time I will indeed name names, but for now it is up to you to prune the growth of this scourge in Washington with your votes and replace these evil men with men of honor, men of compassion, men who are willing to force the virtues and laws of God on all people of the United States. Start with Pete Stark. Once you’ve voted him home we’ll work on further scrubbing.

Finally, I’d like to take a moment to address one specific matter.

From the article:

“Atheists are the last group that a majority of Americans still think is OK to discriminate against,” said Fred Edwords, director of communications for the American Humanist Association.

Well of course they are, Mr. Edwords. Of course they are.
