Jars of antiwar weenies

Most of my followers have heard of a band called Jars of Clay. Heck, a whole bunch of my non-followers have even heard of them. They are one of Christian music’s most talented and influential groups, and until recently one of my own favorites as well. Unfortunately, Jars has gone and done something that did not begin with them asking themselves the question what would Jesus do? No, they just went and wrote a song about the war in Iraq, and not the good kind of song. No, they’ve written the kind of song Neil Young might write, if he were a talented and relevant voice for the popular Christian alternative youth scene. Which he’s not. Thank Dad. Who’d want to hear that? Down by the riii - ver, I baptized my baaaay - beeee! No thanks.
Unlike the monkey-stomping Neil, however, Jars members are supposed to be Christians. Neil we allow to speak against the war due partially to his ignorance and lack of faith in Dad’s all-encompassing plan and partially because nobody listens to him. The guys in Jars are important. They’re supposed to be my boys. I’m starting to wonder though. You see, the guys in the band have in storage a song entitled “Hero43,” a reference to the 43rd President of the United States and a very good friend of mine, George Bush. The lyrics of this song speak of using faith to push a an unnecessary war in Iraq into the world, and draw a correlation to the days of the Crusades
From the article:
I spoke with band representative Dan Haseltine today, as we pressed him on the bands creation of “Hero43″, and why they felt threatened to pull it from their most recent CD released called “Good Monsters“. Other than the fact that the band members say they aren’t entirely ready with the creative presentation of the song, Haseltine is also offering ‘fear of retribution‘ from the Christian community as a reason for its absence on their latest work.
What are you afraid of Dan? If you think you have something to say, why not put it out there and let us all have a listen? Me, I’ve already heard it, Dan, and I’m a little bit disappointed. Indeed this is nothing like that thing you all did at Rutgers, but it’s pretty bad nonetheless. You see, you and a lot of other Christians out there run around professing that Dad has a plan for every little thing in the world, but then you spin around and say dirty things about a man I like so much I made him the most powerful human in his time on your planet. So tell me Dan, which one is it? Do you love me or do you think I made a mistake? You only get it one way.
More from the article:
Know this, if we don’t allow for differing views to be expressed inside of Graceland, we then accept (allow) the ‘power broker gate keepers’ to control the content of the presentation of Jesus’ ‘Gang of Followers’ to the culture, and to speak for all of us.
What’s wrong with my gang of followers? And what is Graceland? And what in the world are ‘power broker gate keepers’? You see, this is the problem all summed up in one short little exposition. Christians can’t allow for differing views, because there is only one right and many wrongs. We put it all on paper for you, now quit being contrary and get back to supporting the President.
