Islam vs. Christianity: to bomb or not to bomb

Posted by Jesus on May 13, 2007

One can determine the temperament of one’s enemies by reading their war manual. The Bible speaks of peace and passivity; my own life on your planet was punctuated by a death which was not resisted. Muslims live by a completely different system, one which is deadly and dangerous. Our story begins at a small church, where Rev. Gary Murrell has decided to begin informing Christians of these core differences.

Murrell has put a sign in front of his church very much like those which you all see each and every day on busy roads in your typical American towns, but his does not carry the usual feel-good message or clever God qiup. Instead, this preacher uses his small billboard to contrast how fundamentalist muslims and fundamentalist Christians differ when deciding whether or not to explode one’s self in a crowded market.

From the article:

Rev. Gary Murrell put up the sign, which on one side claims the message of Islam is “submit, convert or die.”

The other side reads: “When is the last time you heard of a Jew or Christian with a bomb strapped to their body?”

When indeed? The difference between your typical God-fearing Christian and your typical muslim is that one has a holy book which supports murder to spread a false faith and the other does not. Sure, not every muslim is going to go out and blow people up, but that’s no argument against Murrell’s message. If a Christian turns into the worst kind of radical fundamentalist they might bug the crap out of their neighbors, get pushy about removing sinful material from television, or hold camps and play pretend spiritual warfare with their kids. If a muslim interprets their book in a rare and radical manner they don’t go spread Good News. No, they sometimes go and kill people. Women. Children. Little girls.

More from the article:

Despite some in the Islamic community who claim the sign is offensive, Murrell says it is not a hate sign.

“It was not put up there with the purpose of showing that we hate those people,” he said. “It’s not the people, it’s the religion.”

Exactly. Love the sinner but hate the sin. This guy is right on the money, and for that will pick up a Jesus Jackpot, the only prize ever created since the dawn of time which guarantees its recipient passage into Heaven immediately upon their death. It’s sort of like what muslims believe, except that it’s not completely fabricated and doesn’t require you to blow yourself to bits to win one.

Of course this argument is only going to stand so long as you don’t start interpreting the Bible as to allow human bombing runs against your enemies. I know some of you are looking for it in Acts. That’s a real fast way to get yourself damned; yes, I’m looking at you, Karl Rove.

    Hi there, you wrote,

“The Bible speaks of peace and passivity.”

I agree with the peace part, but passive? I don’t think Jesus is a very passive kind of guy.

“If a Christian turns into the worst kind of radical fundamentalist they might bug the crap out of their neighbors, get pushy about removing sinful material from television, or hold camps and play pretend spiritual warfare with their kids.”

I think if Christian turns fundamentalist, they would be burning with passion to love their god and their neighbours, they would be fighting for a chance to hold the hand of the sick, go all out to sell their house to feed the poor, et cetera.
