Even Bush can be wrong sometimes

Those of you who know me also know that I’m a huge Bush supporter. The man has wisdom beyond his years; he is composed, he is resilient, he hates gay people. He is the President of the People. But even the solid stalwart steward of justice himself can be wrong sometimes. I know! It’s hard to believe that a man so brilliant and morally upright can actually be wrong about something so important as saving lives! Yet here we are…
Bush vetoed a bill that would allow embryos that would otherwise be discarded to be used to move science along. The man already has so much going for his legacy that something so small as this would really do little to further an already stellar record as President. It would be nice to see what you’ll later learn to be the cure to all of the diseases on the planet come about while W is in office, but I suppose I’m willing to wait for the next guy if you all are. It’s not the best position though, and I’ll tell you why.
God has a plan for every atom, every molecule, and every quark (including the strange ones). When a bit of matter (or antimatter) begins existence it is a child of God, as are the sums of its many parts over the eternity of its existence. The embryos that are in cold storage are made up of these lesser bits of matter and are therefore also, naturally, children of God. He has a plan for them too. Of course His plan involves their being used to further the survival of others, but not until He’s ready for you to be ready for that. Then it’ll change. I figured it would be under Bush, but sometimes God just does His own thing.
What puzzles me is the moral ambiguity Bush seems to be displaying in this veto. He normally exhibits superb ethical reasoning abilities, but I simply can’t seem to grasp what he’s going for on this one. He’s basically saying he thinks that Dad wants embryos to be thrown away as opposed to being studied for science. Of course it would always be better if you never had to study God’s creations under a knife and a microscope at all, but it’s a necessary step is you ever want to replicate what you learn synthetically. Studying embryos is a stepping stone to learning not to need them, just as fighting wars to maintain a stable source of oil is a stepping stone to ending your reliance on oil itself.
There’s an ideas, maybe someone should explain it to him like that. Then again he’s not in any danger of damnation whatsoever, so if he wants to love unborn babies more than sick people we’ll just put up with it a couple more years.
