"But I want to say as surely as I am sitting here today, this is only a foretaste, a little warning, of what is going to happen." ~Pat Robertson

The Singers

Perk up your ears, Americans. Today’s story has a nice tone to it, even if you’re one of those music-hating non-dancing, non-singing weeniefied Christians. It’s no secret that my favorite channel on TV is Fox, primarily because 24, but to a lesser degree because I’m a secret closet American Idol fan. I know, it’s silly, but I just love sitting and watching those wonderful talents give it their all week after week for a shot at something big. Of course they could just as well be working toward their place in Heaven, but hey, free will is what it is.

It shouldn’t come as any surprise that three of the remaining contestants on the show are Christian, and as such are supported by a large swath of fellow Christians around the country. In much the same way you rallied behind Bush in years past, the Christian competitors on Idol are enjoying the strength of your collective voice week after week.

Now I don’t want to get into specifics, such as who my personal favorite might be (I love everyone equally, you know), but I can already tell Christians that they’ll be pleased with who I’ve decided to let win. Having three from whom to choose the winner makes my job actually quite easy.

My favorite part of the whole process has been the comments from the judges though. Everyone has gotten a little criticism here and there, and all of these singers do have some work to do, but by and large our Christian flock of talent on the show has outperformed the Godless heathens, and the judges have noticed. When the final show is aired and the winner announced, it is my intention that the world shall know that the champion is one of my followers, so that perhaps even a show like American Idol can be used as a ministry tool in the future. In fact, I’ve been working with the seven remaining Christians employed by Fox to trickle the message up the ladder. With a little luck and a lot of omniscience, I’m quite sure we can turn American Idol into a showcase of Christian talent as opposed to just a singing competition. Of course it’s you who hold the votes, America. All you have to do now is ask me how you should use them…
