A great debate!

A whole bunch of you prayed in over the weekend to tell me about this story, where a Christian author (Ray Comfort) has challenged two atheists to a debate about the existence of Dad. It’s a fascinating prospect, I think, for Comfort to take on such a task. Even with the help of Kirk Cameron the two could find themselves in the middle of a sticky semantic argument without the use of a Bible to bail them out. I wouldn’t generally suggest that a Christian go up against a nonbeliever of any sort without the Bible, but then I’m “in the know,” so to speak, about how important the Book is and how useless science can be.
From the article:
“Most people equate atheism with intellectualism,” explained Comfort in a statement, “but it’s actually an intellectual embarrassment. I am amazed at how many people think that God’s existence is a matter of faith. It’s not, and I will prove it at the debate once and for all. This is not a joke. I will present undeniable scientific proof that God exists.
For most Christians this is a terribly dangerous path to take. Think about it like this: when an astronaut goes up in space it’s on a ship designed by thousands of the brightest minds and utilizing some of the most fascinating technology available. They train for months and months, both physically and mentally, and when they finally do launch it’s with a head full of math, physics, flight plan data, experimental variables, contingency plans, and other such knowledge which might benefit them in space. You would never see a regular guy thrown on top of a rocket built by some hobby designers and shot into space with the kind of prowess maintained by your astronauts, would you? Well, think of the Bible like your space ship, your flight plan, your contingencies, and all of your other needs all rolled into one. If it were edible you’d never need anything again, in fact. And just like an astronaut would never go into space without a ship and a plan, a Christian should never go into the world without a Bible.
Now Comfort is a different sort, as is Kirk Cameron. Both of these men are professional Christians – they’ve not only reached the level of knowing their own path and place on Earth, but have reached inside themselves further and have drawn out the unique and uncanny ability to tell others their paths and places. Like a long and humble group of men before them, they are the shepherds of a generation falling further from Dad’s plan. It is therefore with my blessing that these two men enter into this unique debate armed only with the tools of our mutual atheist enemies: logic and reason.
More from the article:
ABC has said that they will film the debate, which will take place on May 5 in New York City, and will stream it live on their website as well as use footage for their program Nightline. Martin Bashir, co-anchor of Nightline, will moderate the event.
Cameron will use the event to also speak out against evolution, which he thinks is not credible and a major contributor to the growth in atheism.
“Evolution is unscientific. In reality, it is a blind faith that’s preached with religious zeal as the gospel truth. I’m embarrassed to admit that I was once a naive believer in the theory,” said the former television star in a statement. “Atheism has become very popular in universities – where it’s taught that we evolved from animals and that there are no moral absolutes. So we shouldn’t be surprised when there are school shootings.”
First of all, I urge everyone to tune in and watch this unfold. Dad and I are going to be in attendance, offering words of wisdom through Comfort and Cameron and helping to feed them the same kind of answers we laid on Bush in the last electoral debates. How else do you think he swayed so many people and endeared such a vast majority of you? Expect that same kind of polished, precise, and professional zeal from these two.
I’m also very excited to see Kirk Cameron speak on evolution. Given its meteoric rise to popularity recently Dad has been forced to take some action, and as a part of His plan He’s made Kirk and a few others official liaisons for Heaven on topics ranging from global warming to baby-killing, evolution to endangered species, and homelessness to homosexuality. Cameron’s newly-discovered knowledge of evolution came directly from God, so it’s important to listen to what he has to say about the topic.
I would pay also pay special attention to his very precise understanding of action and reaction. Like Cameron mentions, there are a lot of universities which teach evolution, and you did just have a very tragic incident at a university a couple of weeks ago. There is correlation there, and perhaps even causation. I’ve said it here time and time again, sometimes bad things are not just accidents, but rather Dad sending you a message. It happens more than you want to believe, and far more than He gets credit for. A few folks such as Pastor Fred Phelps, Kirk Cameron, and Pat Robertson understand these things, and have spoken out about God’s Will being felt on Earth in incidents such as 9/11, Katrina, soldier’s deaths in Iraq, and the Virginia Tech shooting. These are all indeed cases of Dad bringing wrath down upon a society which continues to pull away and deny Him. Cameron will speak to this end during the special, and I’d like you all to be watching.
Let’s also all get the prayers fired up for these two. They’re walking into a lion’s den, entering a debate with atheists without the use of their Bibles as evidence to their being right. We all know that a great deal of the “scientific” evidence found by these atheists was originally put on Earth by Dad as tests of your faith. So while it may look altogether real and prudent when they lay out a multi-billion year timeline and punctuate it with skeletons, fossils, and other such muck supposedly dug up and preserved, let’s all remember the actual origins of all things. Just as Dad put people and animals and trees and water and Hot Pockets on Earth, so did He put fossils and carbon dating and test tubes next to them. They’re all to be used in your game of free will; you are to use what evidence you find to form the best possible opinion of the world. If you want to cheat, though, the Bible has all the answers already written out for you, a little gift from Dad. So while you’re watching, keep all that in mind. No matter how good their positions, and no matter how much science and logic and reason they toss out there, recognize where it all came from originally. Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron will be doing the same, and you can bet they’ll have what it takes to refute such baseless claims even without the awesome Book.
